Gems from the Inbox: The Ivy Plus Society Mixer

The Ivy Plus Society. TIPS, for short. Just couldn’t resist posting this announcement of an event that invited elite grads to cavort and frolic in the very womb of underprivilege, San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood.

comparing apples to oranges: are architects the new Hollywood writers?

As “they” say, ‘you can’t compare apples to oranges,’ but that’s just one of the ways that the pesky hegemons block contrarian thinking. (FYI: my browser’s spell check claims that “hegemons” and “contrarian” are misspelled. Go figure). The promise I made myself was to keep these notes short, almost like text messages, …almost. So here goes. If a bunch of architects stay up all week and come up with great ideas about some future city scenarios, does not the winner deserve more than 10k? My point is this: while writers are on strike in Hollywood, here we are producing online and multimedia content for next to nothing in exchange, or are fictional cities not the realm of Hollywood fantasy? Wait, how much do the Survivor winners get?
